I just set this freestanding maple stairway today. It will have painted stringers..risers…riser brackets…and balusters. The newels, rail and treads are in maple
This took 8 guys to lift it up to its landing. You can see the steel studs I use for the plastered belly.

Stan-Nice work as usual. What thickness are the stringers and do you get any bounce? Thanks

Greg: Thanks.. The stringers are 17 inches wide and 1.5 inches thick. Inside these stringers I have glued up eight layers of 3/8 plywood that is eight inches wide. Kind of a curved internal beam 3 in. x 8 in. It is very stiff,,but I am going to box in the first 4 treads...mainly because the owners want the look. This will make it even stronger....though I dont feel it is necessary to do so for strength.

Beautiful work Stan, as usual. I'm glad to see you with your shop back together and producing again.
BTW my little boy wants some more gyrocopter pics. He loves looking at them
Have a good one.
Stan
As usual, nice looking steps.
Out of all the stairs you do the open ones are my favorite.

Not sure what I like better, your stair pics or your gyro ones. Another fantastic looking stairway. Keep the pics coming. A few more 'in progress' pics would be nice, and I'm sure everyone wants to see finished pics.
ha ha, and it would be nice if you could go back after the folks moved in and get another pic of the stairway with all the furniture and such. See if you can get them to invite you for coffee or something ;)
Gorgeous... and depressing because it makes me feel all the more like a butcher.
Paul: Please....my work is no better than other work posted here. Its just something rather large getting moved into a house.
Excellant work Stan.
I'd be more interested in seeing the shipping arangement. Do you fly it in with the chopper?

Hi Stan,
Your stairs are truly beautiful.
I could lighten your photos to show more of the detail, if you would want me to. Let me know.
Thanks for posting them.

Kestrel: If you want to lighten...go ahead....I should figure my camera out a little better.

Hi Stan,
Here they are. They are beautiful.
