Prescriptive codes don't address the connection at less common angles, so base the connection off more typical ones using bolts, structural screws, blocking, and steel tension ties.

I'm in the process of trying to strip paint off a lot of interior woodwork with hopes of staining. Quite a bit of detail, just like the fret work your picture shows.
I'm looking for a good source on techniques to do this without damaging the detail. Any ideas Ditch?
