Freud Dial-A-Width Dado blade set?
Does anyone know how this is put together? I’m wondering if it has some kind of central sleeve.
I am having problems using the small chipper in my dado set, because it is thin enough that it drops into the threads in the arbor, and causes two problems. 1.) I cant really adjust the width of the dado because it hangs up and prevents things from actually getting snug all the way to the arbor. 2.) It ends up a bit off center, casuing the bottom of the dados to have an extra groove. Not much of a groove, but a small groove none the less.
I figured this out after trying to shim the dado to exact width, and not having any success, and then pulling off the chipper and feeling a distorted little bump at the arbor hole, where it had deformed from being pressed on by the rest of the stack, and the nut.
If you don’t have the Dial-A-Width, do you have any suggestions?

I've never used dial-a-width, but it seems to have overcome the problems characterizing the early adjustable (wobble) types. I have the conventional 6" Freud set, and I've never had problems with blades slipping into the arbor threads. All dado blades should be sitting on the smooth part of the arbor.
