Cool.
How is the political situation thereabouts? Stable? Uneasy?
Is Spanish their first language there? Or?
Tipi, Tipi, Tipi!

Almost 100% Spanish where I was (Azacualpa area), even in some of the more remote villages, but I'm sure that there are still vestiges of Mayan in some areas.
We were 1 1/2 hours from Copan, one of the major Mayan centers ~ 700 AD...that's where the stone carving was.
A little political tension, in that I saw camo-clad armed forces checking ID's on one of the roads, and of course there are uniformed private security guys with assault weapons and 12 gauge's at the ready posted outside banks...but that is normal, I think, in the 3rd world.
More along the "Fine Home Building" line...
How they mix mortor, a "non-listed" service entrance, and securing some rebar:
Very interesting. Thanks for posting the pictures. I'm sure we'd all like to see more.
These guy's relatives are building stuff in the US now.
Yep. 20% of the GNP of Honduras is supplied by money sent back home from the States.
They are still recovering from Hurricane Mitch (1998) down there. Killed 14,000.
Today: Raising corn. Cooking corn.
We were down there the year after Mitch. Glad to see the trees are coming back. The mountains were stripped pretty good.
It's a beautiful place. Quite poor obviously, but nice.
I have family in Honduras, still of place of a few "haves" being served by than more than a few have nots. If your intersested in the role the US plays in this look into the SOA Watch (SOAwatch.org)? and the proposed CAFTA legislation (Central American Free Trade Agreement), and the new "NAFTA" highway being constructed thru the center of the US. It is some really interesting stuff that not too many people know about, but has a big effect on you and me here in the US.
