FS: Dewalt DW071KD Rotary Laser kit MINT

JulianTracy | Posted in Reader Classified on December 8, 2005 08:56am

I am selling a Dewalt DW071KD Heavy Duty Rotary laser level kit. I’ve had this for about a year and it’s only really seen use in a few basements and inside jobs. I’ve upgraded to a auto-leveling Porter cable unit that I got a great deal on.

This is the complete kit and includes the powered laser detector, wall mount, target, glasses and case. They sell for about $350 online, and I’m selling this setup for $200 shipped. This is a manually leveled, two-vial rotary laser level and is very easy to setup and use. It will do a horiz. level line or a vert plumb laser line. It has two lasers that rotate simultaneously and that allows for very precise marking between the the two lines that project. It runs on three D batteries, and they will last near a year depending on use. It has a very well fitted heavy duty kit box as well. Here is a link to Dewalt’s product page:
http://www.dewalt.com/us/products/tool_detail.asp?productID=3103

Here is a picture of the kit:

Thanks,

Julian

    Julian,

Yeah, you're right, they're selling for ridiculous prices on E-Bay. Last night (see my cottonwood roots thread) we went by the toy section at Lowes and they've got a DW071W? for $199.

Almost didn't get that far 'cuz we walked by the tool bags on the way to the lasers and they've got a beeeeyootiful set of leathers for $89. . . oh well, next year, mine still have a few hands full of nails left in 'em.

Judith did find, at last, a spiffy cell pouch for <$5 that we got.

    Down to business.

    I will buy your DW071KD as listed in 66831.1  for $200 including shipping;

We would, of course, prefer sending you a personal check, but a USPS money order is ok too.

Tell me which is OK with you, then Email me your street address and I'll do the same to you.

Unforunately there was a screwup at the service center and for some reason it did not get shipped out before Xmas like it was supposed to.I had called early last week and found that out and they said they would have it shipped out. They have to send it to Houston for the calibration.Sorry for the delay, I'll let you now middle of the week coming up here of the status. Thanks,Julian

You'll just keep thinking of new ways to use it - I know I did. Walls, ceilings, foundations cabinets, decks, etc. - you'll soon start working without a level anymore. You just make a few marks with a sharpie and start building and then every once in a while you check it and it's perfect - and that's cool. You'll notice that I applied some small pieces of white tape behind the vials to help with viewing. I found that shining a flashlight directly at the vial was super helpful for establishing level. The cool thing is - it's built like a tank - I'm sure that the PC self-leveling unit I replaced it with could not handle the knocks that the Dewalt could. The nicest part is the wall mount, in fact, I now do not have one cause my PC kit did not come with one, and they sell separately for about $65.The other cool thing is the fact that the Dewalt twin-lasers project a nice bright beam that has a distinct mid-point between them, making it very easy to make precision marks around a room. When I sent it in, they actually replaced the entire bottom of the unit - cool.Have fun,Julian

Julian, I do mostly form work, but I'm thinking that with the wall mount it would be easy to set up a repeatable reference.

Stick a 2x6 inna ground, brace it off and mount 6" of aluminum angle to it. Clamp and re-clamp and re-reclamp... and get the same reference beam everytime. Real handy if it works. Stick nails inna coupla trees around the site to doublecheck.

Which Porter-Cable unit?  RT7210-1? I have the original Robo-Laser, projects only a dot - remote control, self leveling.  PC bought them out, added line function and rubber armor, changed the color to gray.

Great tool - follow calibration instructions, "out of the box" mine was ~1-1/4" out in 100' , holds calibration well once done.  Check occasionally.  Dot is visible on Tyvek in the sun.

They claim 1/8" in 100', seems to check out against other tools at 10x the price.

I picked up the 5150K kit on Ebay for about $233 plus $25 shipping. They've updated it now - it' the 5250K - brighter beam, longer range.Nice unit though - very heavy duty feeling, simple to use, nice durable design. As happy as I was with the Dewalt unit, I figured for the money, it was worth upgrading. I've done a few drop ceilings with them as well as laying out bottom and top plates for basement walls and such.Super handy!JT

After you sell yours I have the same one for sale plus a nice tripod.
Was gonna put it on Ebay but havent gotten around to it.
I used it for the foundation here on the additions when I started my house and don't ever use it anymore.
edit...actually I think its the DW073KD which is almost exactly exactly the same but I think the wall mount is a little different

The one you have takes the Dewalt batteries and has the wall mount built in, the one I am selling accepts standard D cell batteries and the wall mount is an extra screw-on accessory.I didn't see much use in paying extra for the Dewalt battery capability as I don't have any and it lasts for a long time with D alkalines.JT
