It took a while to switch to air guns. I still prefer my 25 oz hart. However we are thinking of adding a fuel cell gun or two. Ive read “reports” but what do the real field tests show are the pros and cons and brands to avoid?
Thanks, Josh at Silver Hammer Construction

Josh, our company uses the Paslode framer. Works great in the summer if you keep it clean and it sucks in the cold weather. As far as brands to avoid, I'm sorry I can't help you there, we only use Paslode.

I'm interested in purchasing a collated screw fastening gun. I've looked at the QD2000 from Quik Drive, but the screws are incredibly expensive. Is this a good product and are there generic brand screws available for this gun to bring the costs down?
*Silver, I bought 2 Paslodes 3 years ago for my crew and they work out good for punchout stuff and ladder work but they will never replace the air guns. The cycle time is slower even when you master the gun and not being able to bounce fire is a big drawback. They have been very durable, but keep them clean. One thing nobody has mentioned is the smell. The MAPP gas they use has a stink to it. One guy on the crew will vomit every time he smells it. When you use it in a basement, the customer will usually come down to see "what that smell is"

Todd and I agree, but you don't use them and treat them like hammmers or air guns. They need to be cared for as per Todd and directions suggestions.
Great for toenailing, slower head-scratching, remodeling jobs or just jumping from the truck and ambushing some two bys!

I run a small remodeling firm and I find ours to be great for what we do, but it would never keep up under production conditions. It does help to keep it clean and it is fussy about it's diet. Feed it only Paslode fasteners. The generic brands I've tried make it constipated. As for being tough, it fell 10' onto a rock and worked fine. It was submerged in a puddle next to the foundation for 15 minutes or so and ran fine when it dried out. About 10 sheets of ply fell over on it without damage. Tough enough for me.

I like the Paslode, very good second gun for a contractor or only framing gun for a serious home owner os small remodeler. I tried the porter cable and hated it.

I have the pasload framer. An ok punch list gun. It does not replace an air nailer. No good in cold weather. I would not buy it again.
