an addition effectively moves several skip trowel stucco over cbs walls to the interior of a home. need to add furring strips over the skip trowel surface for paneling or drywall later. anybody got any great ideas how to do keep the strips in plane.
also, the ceiling is stucco over wire attached to the trusses. access to the attic side of the ceiling is ok so, i guess, i have the option of getting up there and knocking the stucco and wire off the trusses and work with the bare trusses for the drywall or do the furring strip thing again. any suggestion here?
thanks
bob

What is a cbs wall?
cmu=concrete masonry unit
If you can afford the lose of a few inches, just add a 2x2 metal stud wall in front of the existing wall. Sure beats the heck out of finfing the high spots and trying to shim all the furring strips to them.

Hello Moonhill,
Remove the stucco on the walls or as the previous post suggests furr out the existing walls.
Do not put furring strips on the ceiling, unless you are going to fasten strips to the directly to the trusses. It is very dangerous and against code in my area to hang a ceiling from a ceiling. I would remove all plaster and lath and hang the new ceiling from the trusses.
Good Luck,

I'd take it all down.
i must have been thinking about watching the news....cbs!
i meant cmu...sorry.
i would just add 1/2 inch thick styrafoam over stucco then 1/2 inch OSB over that with a masonry screw that gets a good bite in CMU's, the expanded polystyrene will give enough here and there that you should be able to tighten the screws at the proud locations to get it to all plane in for drywall, and you get insulation and only add 1 inch to thickness of wall.
whadya think?
