I am going to be installing some faux gable end vents on a house with Hardie lap siding. Under the siding is Tyvek and OSB sheathing. When I go to install the vents (20″ inch round ) the manufacturer recommends “non corrosive fastners and PL adhesive”.
First question- Do I remove the tyvek to expose the sheathing? Some or all of it? Is it necessary to waterproof (besides just caulk around the edges) the wall area with the tyvek removed?
Second question- Are the fastners necessary or can I just use the adhesive?
Thanks for you responses

The PL (not regular) Premium adhesive will practically weld the unit to the sheathing if you cut back the tyvek, but you still need to secure it in place while the glue kicks. Since this is a polyurethene glue, it will expand slightly while curing too so you don't want it pushing the thing off.
I don't like the idea of using only caulk. I'm in a weet climate with wind driven rains. I build lead step flashing into any curved exterior penetration.
One thing I find interesting is that Fypon now publicly recommends the PL Premium. When I started using it, they would sell you their own private label adhesive, but a gal in the factory told me that it was PL Premium with a Fypon label and that I could buy it for about 60% of their price. That was my first introduction to this fantaastic adhesive.
