Galv nails- ring shank vs spiral

The hardware store guy pointed out that hot dipped galv ring shank nails have no rings essentially as the galv metal fills up the spaces between the rings.
He said use spiral nails
opinions?
Is there any table of standards that lists pull out values for different nails?
