In an earlier thread I inquired about retrofitting insulation to a door. I’ve decided not to go that route, but elected to go with a new door.
It’s a double door, 16′ x 8′. Any functional (ie, not appearance related) pros or cons to a 4 panel vs 5 panel design?
Thanks

4 panel is stronger..

A 5 section door will transition through the track radius more smoothly than a 4 section door will because of the shorter distance between pivot points. However, I think you would only notice the difference if you had the two options installed side by side.
The 5-panel would in theory allow a tighter radius track, which might be important in low-overhead situations. Not sure how easy it is to find a tighter radius track, though.Otherwise I don't see the point in a 5-panel door for a standard height door.

I don't remember how many panels but I once installed my own 8' tall door and it often refused to go all the way up.
I finally had a garage door company out to adjust it and the tech worked a couple of hours, said my install and adjustment was good ,and the problem was that I should have had 1 more panel.
