   Ditto Bo.  You only need 6-8 inches of headroom.

   I'm just curious about how this garage is built.  I’m assuming that the frame ceiling is a standard 8’1” because the slab was poured without the normal 3-1/2” curbs at the rear/back of the garage. 

    

   Curbing the slab provides a level bottom plate line while also allowing the floor of the garage to be slightly sloped to drain to the door.  This increases the finished ceiling height at the garage door opening by about half a foot total.  It takes that extra space to make standard 7’ tall garage door track systems install correctly.  Otherwise they are forced to fit and will often be as you describe.

    

   A standard 7’ tall G-door needs a 8’6+ ceiling height.  The extra height also helps with taller dimensioned headers that are needed over the 16’+ wide doors too.

    

   I’m just guessing at one possible cause for your track situation because that’s the one I see cause your problem most often.

   I'm shooting from the hip here, but I seem to recall that a standard door fits in a 14" drop so if that's right, you didn't need a low space track. Something doesn't souind right. what's up?
