Mike, you're welcome to all my photo space. I've only posted a couple of low resolution pics, over the last two+years, so my allotment should be available.
Considering the value I've received from your photos and descriptions, it's the least I can do.

Can we do that? I'd gladly give him my space allotment also. According to their records, its 100% available. Since I post my pics from flickr.com, I don't need their pixels to post pics. Do the trusses get little hats put on for a peak, or do they stay flat on top?
we may never find outMike Hussein Smith Rhode Island : Design / Build / Repair / Restore
"Do the trusses get little hats put on for a peak, or do they stay flat on top?"
I call the top pieces "caps trusses". But like so many other things, terminology varies from one region to another.
The trusses are built in two pieces because of height. Most truss tables that I've seen are 14' wide. Not coincidentally, 14' is the max that you can haul down the road without special permits.
So if a truss is over 14' wide it must be built in two pieces so it can feasibly be built and shipped.
There is one other option - Scissor trusses can be split vertically in the middle and joined in the field. But that takes a heck of a lot of extra labor, so it is only used in extreme cases.
The morale of an organization is not built from the bottom up; it filters from the top down. [Peter B. Kyne]
caps trusses".>>>>>>>..
Our name for them is pigs!>G<
piggy back here to. and they only can haul 12' did a job once and two layers of pigs on top of the main truss.the bottom cord spanned 85'
Had one of thoses also. Pain in the rear. Set up boom truck three seperate times. If they had dropped the roof to a 4/12 rather than a 5/12, only one piggy back would have been needed.
yea when the roof is that big , changing the pitch a little is not that noticable
Unfortuneatly it was a commercial building and it would have been a hassel to change.
Thanks, Ron. The additional info on the scissor trusses explains to me some of the design i stumbled across in the back 40 at the local truss place where i scavenge.
Nice color coordination on the crapper !!!
I was thinking he should paint that dumpster Mike Smith Red, too!
The rust color is not a good look for him.
One of the reasons I use flickr.com is the ease of posting photos, without using any "allocation". They do require posted photos link to their site, but they give you the html, you just right-click-copy it, click source, and paste it.

Oh they're very handy indeed. Used them already to span between two walls and lightly press against some foam insulation until the adhesive sets up. Work great as a laser mount as well.So what's this fine tune feature? I looked on the Fastcap site and didn't see anything. The adjust should already be on the bottom of your poles.
The ball insert connected to the shaft that runs inside the metal pole should screw in/out to fine tune the up down.

Just ribbin' you, Mike. I know that you be as calm and cool as prez O-Bam. Even that middle name yo mama give ya, don't bother u.
Take an hour or so when it's raining and you can't play golf, and set up free accounts on all three (or more), and try them out with some "test" Breaktime posts.
When you do the try-outs, jot down your sequences of moves, so you know for sure what works and how. Then try it for a post with three embedded pics or more.
You may find you like it and prefer it. I know I do. Shutterfly, used with IE8 browser on a PC under XP Pro.

Hi MikeGlad to see you're able to resume posting pics via an outside storage site. And the pic file sizes (not dimensions) are nice and small to load fast. No reduction in picture quality that I see.Have you considered rocking the ceilings first before non-load bearing partition walls go up? Is it not worth the disruption of "flow" doing rock and then walls and then rock again? Just curious.

Mike-
Great thread (as always). I wondering how much you're paying per bale for your cellulose. I'm thinking of going the insulmesh route for my house, but cellulose has gotten a good bit more expensive in NJ during the last year (went from $8 to $11.25 per bale). I haven't gotten quotes from any distributors yet, just shopping at HD and Lowes.
I was once on a job where the possibility of running posts like that came up, but someone brought up the point of the posts checking as they dry and allowing water behind the rubber and possibly into the house. Does that make sense? Just curious.

Mike,
When you mill the scotia or other profiles, do you do anything to treat the raw surfaces?
The reason I ask is that I have noticed that the end and edge grain of the PVC boards tends to attract more dust and debris (and hence more food for mildew and other organisms). When you have a routed profile, it's even worse.
This pic shows a handrail bracket mount on my side porch. It's not the best quality photo (just took it tonight) but you can still clearly see the greenish hue that needs to be cleaned. I think painting would help seal it up, but then you have a paintable surface that will require eternal maintenance. I just wondered if you had any advice.View Image

Hey Mike, how did you do the gable sunburst?http://www.tvwsolar.com
Now I wish I could give Brother Bill his great thrill
I would set him in chains at the top of the hill
Then send out for some pillars and Cecil B. DeMille
He could die happily ever after"
we've built them piece by piece before... but this time i bought a Fypon piece and cut the radius offMike Hussein Smith Rhode Island : Design / Build / Repair / Restore
I've used fypon inside, never outside. UV is not a problem, I assume?http://www.tvwsolar.com

I've only used fypon outside never inside. thought it was designed for outside use.

Depends on if it's raining or not. :)
Mike, great work as always. And very educational. I visited Electric Boat in Groton about 30 years ago. It's amazing how large those subs are when you are up close. The were using lasers back then to line up parts.
How does the Azek compare to Koma? I'm using Koma for the first time because I had to bend it around a round corner. My dad said that he never thought he'd live to see plastic wood. I like the Koma - easy to work with and make it plumb/level. I did manage to crack a piece (more like an explosion) when I bent it around the corner and tried using the nail gun. The next time I drilled holes and used screws.
I liked Koma... probably less money than Azek...
but my lumber company sells Azek... their distributor switched from Koma to Azek
lot's of products get pushed by the distribution system....

Nice work Mike ... and nice to see fans ('sunburst') making a comeback (we have one on our 1932 house).
Did you know that they became incredibly unpopular right around December, 1941? You can effectively date a house as pre-war if it has one - until more recently.
Best,
Jeff
Thanks Mike,I'd only seen that as the Grace stuff before.Keep up the good work.Best,

Here's what it should turn out like. Remember to check the little HTML tags box before posting. Otherwise all your code will show like the post above.

seen a lot of cathedral ceilings with very flimsy gable ends.... since we have a Mooney wall, we were able to bury a 2x6 box stiffener as a center support>>>>>>>>>>>.
You aren't lying about some flimsy cathedral walls. We have always tryid to brace the heck out of the trusses to help, but they still are flimsy!!
steve.... my daughter is selling me on photobucket

ok, I agree (this is mike's daughter) for Taunton, shutterfly seems to be the way to go... My online groups work better with Photobucket, but Shutterfly is definitely easier for this site.

AFAICT, there are only two sizes you can bring the pics over from Shutterfly.
Doubleclick on the pic in its album to select it, then do the right click copy thing, and you get the smaller size.

Doubleclick on that pic when it is opened, and it blows up to this size.

What seems weird to me is that both, if I right click to get properties, are the same size files.
It used to be, before this, that I would have to bring my pics from the camera to the hard drive, then edit their size down using Irfanview. No more, with this Shutterfly method.
This pic shown here was shot with my camera setting on max pic resolution, meaning the file size is quite large. Shutterfly seems to have some kind of file smooshing thing going.
I think you will find this, as you progress along, to be far easier than what you used to do, in getting embedded pics into a Breaktime story thread.

GeneWhat I suspect is that the two pics are actually the same physical picture, but for the two different "showings" they are using the HEIGHT and WIDTH parameters in the underlying HTML code.Ă‚
EDIT:
Well maybe not the same. First quick look at the HTML source code shows two different source files for the pics:src="http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47b9d800b3127ccec73f6f196bca00000040O00AZuW7Nu5Zt2QPbz4e/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D550/ry%3D400/" />src="http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47b9d800b3127ccec73f6f196bca00000040O00AZuW7Nu5Zt2QPbz4e/cC/f%3D0/ps%3D50/r%3D0/rx%3D720/ry%3D480/" />

Mike - I always am amazed at your projects...but honestly barely had enough time to view other posts as I was so time consumed uploading my own posts with my slow internet. Now that I cant post pictures.... I have much more time enjoying yours and the others now that I am more of a lurker.
keep up the good work Mike!
