Hello everyone,
I’m installing a Jotul propane fireplace and am using a Simpson wall thimble and Simpson 5/8 Duravent pipe. Does anyone know what type of sealant can be used to seal the 1/8″ gap around the vent pipe where it passes through the thimble? This is the one detail that the instructions don’t explain. From inside I can see a sliver of daylight. Is a regular high heat silicone okay to use here? I’d appreciate any advice you may have.

The manufacturer's instructions for the Duravent pipe will want either 1" or 2" clearance to combustibles, and since hi-temp silicone is not a combustible material as defined in the codes, the answer is, yes, you can use if for a sealant.
