Mornin everyone!
I have a post in the help/ work wanted folder,at suggestion I am posting it in this folder also.
I am trying to gather info about relocating to the miami area, (family reasons)I had heard that you need a license in florida to do kitchen and bath work. I am under the impression that to even work for a contractor you need a license. I do not (at this point) work for myself, I install cabs, tile, windows, door , trim etc., I guess you would classify it as a remodeler. If there is such strict requirements there, where/how do you go about getting the necessary papers? Is it an actual “state” run school?(similar to the uniions?) Any help will be appreciated.
Thank you all Ej

You might find Contractor's License Reference Site useful. I don't remember who posted the link originally (not all that long ago), but it strikes me as a very useful site.

Left side: "Business & Professional Regulation" and below that "Construction Industry."
I'm in Naples, on the other coast. Florida just instituted a new building code and Miami has one that is more stringent than ours due to their propensity to have more hurricanes and more severe ones.
Florida has three licenses in our building/remodeling besides the specialty trades:
1. Residential Contractor
2. Builder Contractor (commercial up to 3 stories)
3. General Contractor
That's for a contracter that is "certified" in the entire state. Miami, like collier County here in Naples, may also have what's called a county license and that license is "registered" with the state for work to be done in the respective county only.
There are schools that offer classes prior to taking a test. My youngest son recently paid out about $1200 for the books (about $800) and test fees.
Anyway, for more info, contact my son Pete at: [email protected]. Note the double "l" in his address.
