Hello,
Building a 14’x14′ gazebo. Was originally going to do a timber style construction, but have decided to go to a regular faming style.
I have poured 24x24x18 footer and set a 3′ column block on top, then filled with concrete. Planning to use 6×6 posts with 6×8 tie beams and 4×6 knee braces. 5:12 pitch and 10″ overhang (trying to stay under 12′ on the hip rafter).
For the roof framing, I used blocklayer.com to come up with layout and sizing of rafter and jack sizes and cuts. I’m looking to use 2×6 common and jack rafters. Question is about Hip rafters. Per the plans I did single 2×8. I’m in Florida, so no snow lowed, its the uplift that is more of an issue here. Is single 2×8 enough? Alternatively it’s doubling it up.
I was considering using Cypress as the material. Only found one place that will provide S4S, not cheep. Can’t find a direct mill that will provide S4S. One I found only does green rough. Alternatively can use PT SYP for half the price…
Let me know your thoughts.
