I’ve been asked to build a gazebo this summer, probably 6 or 8 sided, and having not built one before, I’m wondering what to use to hold the top plates or members tight together to resist the out ward pressure of the rafters.

I can imagine using a steel cable around the outside, or even steel strapping nailed across each corner joint, but if anyone out there has done this sort of thing before, could you let me know your approach, or suggestion?
