Generator, Your thread about ideas for a foot bridge has dropped into the Archives, so I’m reviving it. I saw a copy of the June, 2001 issue of
(ugh!) Better Homes and Gardens WOOD magazine. On the cover is a small foot bridge built from home made laminations of 5/4 cedar. It’s small, but the basic idea is pretty sound. You might want to take a look.
This brought to mind an article I read in Mother Earth News about 20 years ago about a huge Gothic Arch barn that was built with site-built laminated ribs. Index blocks were pegged to the barn floor and the laminations were shaped to the proper curve and glued and spiked together. I think there were 7 one-inch boards layered for each barn rib.
Both of these sources might help you with your planning. I’ve given this a lot of thought as I want to bridge a 30 foot creek myself. Best of luck.
Greg.
