hi, I’m a homeowner working on an addition and as you can see in the picture, there’s a continuous 20′ header all the way across the back wall of the house. This is because due to the amount of openings, it’s portal framed.
My question is whether it’s possible to get wiring from the ceiling joists down past the header in a code compliant way. Portal frame calls for no spacer between the double 2×12’s, so there’s an extra 1/2 inch of space on the inside face (that’s why you see the pieces of zip behind the tension ties).
So can the top plate be notched by 1/2″ and the wire run down the face of the header and then covered with a large nail plate?
Thank you,
Ben

That should be fine just install a no nail plate over the notch in top plate
And along the run on the header as well.
Plan your location of the run down so it doesn’t fall within the stud layout. That way a dazed drywaller might not hit the metal and get disgruntled.
Sounds good and makes sense. Thanks!
