Probably not into GFICs, though I can't say yea or nay with regard to GFCIs.
Can't say exactly for New York
.......but in DE, kitchen appliances ----- disposer (hard wired or plug-in inside of a cabinet), dishwasher (hardwired only), microwave (if hardwired or plug-in inside of a cabinet), hardwired vent hood, and refrigerator (so long as the plug is behind the frige) do NOT require GFCI protection.
Never installed a plug-in disposer, a wall box mounted GFCI probably would not hurt and you know as soon as it blows -- unlike the refrigerator......

dedicated appliance receptacles
for things like refrig, disposer, freezers and washing machines do not need to be GFCI - per NEC 2008 - which is what we use. I have no idea what NY uses - probably some version of the NEC - but you could look it up and report back to us. The idea behind a dedicated recetacle is one that is installed in a space specific to the appliance in question - ie a receptrical under a sink would be dedicated to a disposal.
