I had shut down on these two glass/cherry stairways as my shop was being rebuilt. The shop is still a mess..but the construction crew is about out of there.
I got started back on these two stairways by fitting the cherry treads and 1/2 inch tempered glass risers into their mortises.
I am going to prep all 32 treads…then assemble them sometime down the road.

Wow, on those glass. I'm wondering are u going to glue the wood together or is it going to be bolt together in one whole piece? What if the owners got one bad glass how is he going to get that part off? One time my wife was doing stained glass and they had an open house, she wanted me to come along and see something. I was surprise to see they had the upper "foyer" (not sure what u would call it) floor made out of glass and it lights up and we were walking on it! Kinda nice.
Blue: I am going to lag bolt the stringers into the 1.5 inch thick treads. A 14 inch microlam will be on the outside of the stringers. The riser mortises are designed to easily replace any riser should it be necessary.
This is done with one side having mortises 1 inch deep. The mortise is also back chiseled so the riser is inserted at an angle..slid in...and then inserted in the opposite mortise and then centered in these mortises. A cap strip on the back of the tread will trim off the rabbet that holds the bottom of the riser.
The risers will float and will not take the strain of the treads.

Wow. that is beautiful!
clearly these people are better housekeepers than I am. ouch!
Looks great. My dogs would look at them and run the other way.
Very nice looking. It has the feel of open treads while still meeting code. Thanks for showing us another Foster Masterpiece.
These stairs have to get out of my shop next week. I have all the glass in them and just need to trim the back of the tread where it is rabbeted for the glass.
The stringers are 1.25 inch cherry...with a 1.75 inch x 14 inch microlam glued and lagged together. These two stairs will sit over each other. These are going to be monsters to install.

Very cool Stan!
Those things look heaaaavvvvvvy.
But I'd help you carry them in for the joy of watching you do your thing.
Make sure you get pictures of the final.

Dang, ya got that 'copter already fly'n and it doesn't even have a motor or rotors yet - cool!
Mighty pretty stairs too... ;-)
What's with the fastener through the glass risers? Is this tempered glass? If so, the glass must have come with fastener holes already placed.
Is there a rubber washer of some kind to isolate the metal screw from the glass?
Stinger: The riser is sitting on nylon bushings.

Very nice indeed.
