Working with a customer on a full custom master bathroom project.
Has a steam shower with frameless glass walls. One of the glass walls intersects the tile wall at a 45 deg outside corner. The customer really wants the glass outside to line up with the 45 corner. Using normal frameless shower clips I was assuming there would need to be atleast a 1/4″ of flat to mount the clip.
Talking about it we wonder is there any reason not to install the glass before the tile using no clips. eg use the tile to lock it in.
Other than the obvious, “It’s not usually done this way” and the Glass Sub is the last guy in. Does anyone see any technical reason we shouldn’t do this??
Thanks to all on this great site.
PS I’ll try to draw it up tonite to better explain it.

Well, it not usually done that way............but you allready know that.
Are you implying that a good glass shop does not have a clip designed for your application?
I work with New England Shower Door; they're way up in Conn. on the shore, not sure if they service your area, but their range is quite broad.
They have done alot of interesting stuff for me and I've seen pictures of even more interesting stuff that they have completed, top shelf all the way.
I wouldn't do it unless it was an absolute last resort.

Here's a pic of frameless glass lining up to a corner: http://www.majesticmarket.com/images/FRAMELES894.jpg Maybe that'll give an idea or two. I also have seen some pretty small tracks for glass. Maybe they can be installed, tile to them, then add the glass at the end. A big reason to put the glass in after is for replacement if it breaks. Glass doors can break, and if it does, you don't want it locked into the tile so you have a tile job along with the glass replacement. Tiling after the glass increases the odds of breakage, and also makes for more cuts for the tile installer.
i think i'd look into alum track that you could set flush with the tile that the glass would then slip into... as for replacement... i know it's an issue but i've never seen a broken one
