Folks,
My wife and kids have me convinced that a good project for these days locked at home would be to design a 20′ X 12′ post and beam solarium/sunroom addition with a glass roof. Can someone direct me to a good resource on how to DIY to roofing system? I’m confident of the framing, and coming up with a solution for the walls, but finding examples of a roofing system that allow for 24″ on center beams and large panel of glass is escaping me.

I remember a JLC article from October 2003: Glazing a Custom Sunroom. The builder used Pro-Seal glazing bars from Abundant Energy and 1” insulated panels on 24” center parallam rafters. The article has great construction details showing internal gutters and weep holes for water/condensation management. Planning for different material movement is key and choose wood that won’t warp to support glazing (not green or treated). A fine home building article (“designing and building leak free sloped glazing”) recommended redwood or cedar for dimensional stability
