They have warlon, a pvc product. Traditionally shoji is paper.
Click on shoji paper.
I have bought lights from this site and service was good.

Things are moving too fast for me.....:)Those are exceptional......We visited a gallery here in Tucson where an artist had some lamps(way out of our range) that were carved out of paper......
Phil, looks like etched glass would do the trick.
Don is our etched glass expert.
Don, can you hook him up here ???

Lived in Japan for a while (Okinawa). Saw a lot of Shoji screens. A Shoji is pretty large. Frame is pretty light. Glass would be a bit heavy for them. That's probably one reason why paper is used. If you go to glass, it should be tempered for safety, & would have to be 1/8 inch thick. A uniform frost over the entire area is necessary. A commercial glass provider could get it for you most likely. You definitely don't want to buy the glass from a glass artist etcher - you'd need a body guard to accompany you when you take the money to pay them.DonDon Reinhard

What about the frame?...Would this be a "stock" item available from someone?
....and y'all are right, it belongs up here, not in the tavern...
Dang, all i can provide is Canadian beer, no ST's up here.....

Can't help you here. Have never seen a shoji made in USA. May be - I just haven't seen them. Yes, you can go w/an acrylic material. Don't expect to get it frosted by sand blasting - doesn'tworkverywellonthem.DonDon Reinhard

philter.... i'd use Kalwall fiberglass
Solar Components Corp in Manchester , NH ( "little Kalwall " ) makes a great 1/2 " thick panel that looks as close to a shogi as you can get without being the real thing

Warlon is the tried and true answer. We talked about this before.http://forums.taunton.com/n/mb/message.asp?webtag=tp-breaktime&msg=31964.1&maxT=7I am personally interested in experimenting with a new type of shoji that is a simple rectangular frame with a piece of twin wall polycarbonate inside, clear. Inside the alternating cells of polycarbonate wooden strips are inserted. Voila, a fast and cheap modern Japanese shoji that you can build onsite. This could also be done with the milky colored polycarbonate.
How about plexiglass ?
You should be able to find it frosted like that. The frame should be simple enough to make.
