Studied archives and referenced JLC articles all afternoon. Still uncertain of best approach. Installing 3″ wide, 5/8″ thick bamboo flooring on 1) an elevated concrete slab, and 2) a 1 1/2″ gypcrete slab. RFH in each. Each floor has been heated all winter. Slab is almost 2 years old. Gypcrete has been tested w/ a moisture meter and approved for flooring installation.
Bamboo supplier recommending glue-down w/ Bostik’s Best or BST. Gypcrete company recommending floating be/c of expansion/contraction. Also says floating feels better to walk on. Hard to resolve diversity of opinion be/t them. Maybe glue to concrete slab but float over gypcrete?
Maybe glue every other board and every other tongue? (Joking)
Bonus point questions: If floating, do you prefer the red building paper, plastic, foam, or nothing under the floor? Also, local hardwood dealer said to use any ol’ wood glue for T&G gluing (floating). Says everyone uses Elmer’s, regardless of how it’s relabelled. T or F?
Thanks.
