I need a post to carry load from ridge beam. Calculated as 4×6 by engineer can be build up from dim lumber but I would prefer engineered product for stability, strength and since it is 18′, it will be easier. Now, lumberyards in my area does not carry engineered posts but have standard glulam beams ( Anthony Forrest). Can I use glulam beam as a post ?
I know it maybe kind like “what size of beam do I need” question but it may also (I hope) start some creative exchange.

I have done so .
But ... they were zero crown and designed by the manufacturer for use as posts.
Might just check with the manufacturers sales people.
What about steel? Veneered with wood, you won't notice the difference. Might be cheaper...
Thanks, I was considering steel but joinery is getting complicated and it happend that I have "spare" glulam.
