Good P/C sander bearing replacement
My Porter-Cable 5″ random-orbit sander (model 333) regularly chews up the “oscillation’ bearing, and I then have a billion-rpm non-oscillating disc sander. the replacemnt bearing from PC is about $14, plus shipping.
I found a bearing from NSK from measuring the old bearing (maybe 10mm X 30mm?) and just ordered a ten-pack for ~$40.
Much better, and locally stocked.

Any local auto parts should have them, look on ebay too for cheaper.

Also the bearings that Phil Woods uses in his bike hubs.

Good to know, thanks.
I was ready to huck mine last summer until the parts guys 'fessed up that they had the generic bearing in stock at less than half price.
How many times have you replaced yours?
Six, so far.
Wait, I have the 333 and the RT.angle..which sander do you have? I've had mine for at least 10 yrs each, and sanded a helluvalotta stuff.
Are you getting sealed bearings? And rated for the RPM?
Mcmaster had 2 for my planer, one was 18k rpm, the other was upto 22K ( which I needed, it's a universal motor)..just wonder how you eatt so many bearings?Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks

Don't know - it is a 333. Ate two PC bearings before I found these. They are sealed, and rated for 25000 rpm, IIRC.
I do use it a lot

I don't often use the vacuum hose, so maybe builds more dust and fractured abrasive up inside?

Oh, hook and loop w/holes?

Yep - may be it. The dust goes right past the bearing.
>>>Six, so far.Great. I knew the booger had some life left in it. Thanks. It's a darn shame to huck a repairable tool in the landfill. But when faced with $50 for repair parts vs. a new tool, with warranty for $75, whaddaya do?????What's wrong with this picture?Scott.
Another point to consider is that you may be using the wrong ball bearing. Do you have the original and are the #s still readable?
A "standard" ball bearing is designed to handle radial loads - like the force applied to the tread of a tire if the car is moving straight ahead.
A random orbit sander also applies a thrust load to the bearing as you press down on the motor housing.
You might need what is called an "angular contact bearing".
This looks like a regular ball bearing. In your case it should be 15mm ID x 35mm OD x 11mm Wide. This angular contact bearing can handle both radial and thrust loads and may last alot longer than the bearings you are using.
Just something else to look at.
