good sources for interior French doors
Been poking around for good sources for interior French Doors. This will be installed in a mudroom, will not see any weather and will not be locked. Will separate the mudroom from the rest of the house. It’s the main entrance. Plan is for a set of double doors, 6 foot width total.
Started off getting a quote for a Jeld-Wen product, unfinished oak, came in at $4,300. Can anyone recommend some other manufacturers? I’d like to do some comparison. Price is certainly a consideration but quality is most important. Am not looking for anything fancy, just plain and simple.
How does that price strike you, by the way?

Right in the solar plexus.
Does this need to be an "exterior entrance system"?
If there's heat in the mudroom and you're looking for an interior french, no threshold or weather strip, perhaps just an astrigal-you should be able to come up with something for a heck of a lot less than that price. The oak veneer adds to the mix, but since I haven't priced something like that out in quite a while, I'd have to call my supplier. Still sounds steep, depending on the set up and hardware.
I have to admit I was surprised at the quote when I first saw it. I think I saw some Anderson entry french doors that were less than that. And last time I bought a Jeld-Wen door, it was made in China, so go figure....although maybe the french doors are sourced domestically.
I'll keep looking. Would be nice to find something local, oak is not essential but would look great in the home.
I was sort of expecting something in the $2K range...but maybe I'm totally out of it.
So you are looking for an exterior entrance French.
Depending on you opening and need-I'm sure you could find two glass doors (divided lite if necessary) that you could fit to your own installed jamb. Depending on your existing floor, a custom threshold you fab and install might be a better fit than the taller standard entrance frame thresh. A compression stop can be had for the jamb. Unless of course you'll be having a throw rug for the feet inside.
What's your time and talent worth?
Do you have a ReStore outlet in your area. When I've cruised the ReStores up here I've found some wicked good deals on all sorts of doors.
