good waterproof exterior adhesive?

Wife is embarking on a project to glue 3/8″ bamboo stakes to an existing planter box made of 2×10 outdoor wood. It’s nice and dry, been indoors for a week. She was gonna use hot glue, and I told her my experience with hot glue in exterior use is poor.
I’m thinking of some sort of adhesive in a cartridge but wonder what one(s) you would recommend for such a project, exposed to rain, heat, cold, sun year in and out.

I think I'd predrill and use some small galv finish nails.
PL Premium is bullet proof, but the new Titebond 3 is good for everything except constant submersion.

It's a planter box. It had been filled with dirt for about 7 years and held up pretty well, and is getting recycled to be a decorative planter box. Not sure if we'll fill it up with dirt again or just put potted plants in it.
About 7' long, 15" wide and 12" deep. Made of 2x outdoor wood and not much fun to drag around single-handedly.
OK, normally I would drill them into the sides like suggested, but this thing is probably almost gone bad already with rot and age, so it probably makes little difference. I would also typically fill with dirt and then stab the poles into the dirt which would hold them.Wood that is aged anmd dirty like this won't hold glue well anyhow, so I would add some screws, pins or something to stabilize along with the glue.some sort of polyurethene glue.

Hi geoffhazel,
glue 3/8" bamboo stakes to an existing planter box made of 2x10 outdoor wood
3 cents of advice....clean the wood good....dry scrub brush is fine simply make certain it's clean.....put on gloves.......lay it flat......run a teeny tiny bead of gorilla glue down each bamboo stake....put in place on the planter....wait 24 hours......do one side at the time.....the old wood and the glue should last about the same amount of time.

If the glue joints will not be visible I'd use Gorilla glue -- it expands as it sets and bonds well with rough and slighty punky surfaces. But it does ooze out (more than you expect) and is an ugly brown, so something else is in order if the joints are visible.
While I like Gorilla glue I think it expands too much for some purposes. I go with Sphere on this one and I'd use PL Premium. Stuffs rock solid and hardly expands.
Or you could always go with my new found love...
