Gore Inlighten Screens – discontinued

jhallett | Posted in General Discussion on February 3, 2011 05:50am

While looking for information on Gore’s Inlighten window screen product for an upcoming job, it seems from their web site that the product is discontinued? Was there some fatal flaw with the product, a patent war or has it been sold to someone else? Thanks for any feedback! James

    I'm curious too

I made a houseful of screens out of their material last year. Nice stuff.

    Gore InLighten Screens - Discontinued

According to the product manager for InLighten screens at GORE, they have discontinued production because of the big slowdown in the housing market. The InLighten screen business didn't grow as much as they had hoped, and GORE is a big company with a lot of other businesses. Since the housing market is not expected to rebound soon, they decided to concentrate on their other successful businesses.

I'm upset about it, because the InLighten screens were a miracle product - invisible screens. There is no other comparable screen available. Oh, well.

      Gore Inlighten screening

      Hello -

I used Inlighten screening on my place and have lots left.

      I'd like to sell a new roll (30 ft x 36"),

      plus a few remnants.

      30" x 42" (2)

      19" x 54" (2)

      27.5" x 41" (2)

      Would you be interested?

      Best,

Does anyone have any InLighten Screening?

This subject was discussed last year when W.L. Gore discontinued its InLighten screening.  I have 70 windows on my house screened with this material but saved only a small reserve supply for rescreening. I was caught short when I learned that the material was being discontinued.  It's too bad, because the InLighten material was unique--resilient and very nearly invisible, especially when compared to standard fiberglass screening.

If anyone has an unwanted supply of this material, I would be interested in buying it.

I'm very curious how the Gore product would compare to the SeeVue screen, which is also supposed to be very good.  I just did a bunch of research on the topic for my Dad who is looking to rescreen.

I would think screens on the Seaview would be a bad idea.

Remindes me of an old line:

I had forgotten to add - I sent this email to GORE:

subject: I heard your screens were really good - coming back online?

Body:  Any idea if you are thinking about coming back into production on the screen, or selling the setup to another manufacturer?

      Answer from GORE:

      Hi Paul,

Gore exited the inLighten screen business in January 2011.  We have no plans to re enter that market.  Gore kept the technology and did not sell the business.

      Sincerely,

      GORE® inLighten® Clearly better window screens®

It's official, they took their ball and went home.

Any idea if you are thinking about coming back into production on the screen, or selling the setup to another manufacturer?
