Wonder if any gps units have a key you can hit to track business vs personal miles? Would be useful for some business owners.

i've always thought that the cars with nav systems built in ought to have one more button for that very thing

MY Nuuvi doesn't have that function so I just keep a log book/tablet with all my miles.
Then at the end of every month I log it into Excel so at the end of the year I can just go into spreadsheet and press print.

That's what I had in mind, but I could see a function on the GPS screen that you hit to select business/personal.++++++++++++++++++

Ken and Piffin:
Quit puttin it in writing for someone else to run with.
Contact one of them there GPS companies and git er done.
Just make sure you protect it before they steal it from you.
I would probably buy one so once you have it prototyped, post up
Seems like a button would only be as good as your memory to hit it correctly every time you get in the truck. If you forget to hit the right button just a few times a month, you are no better off than simply estimating, which is acceptable to the IRS anyway, within reason of course.
But now that I think about it, one of my vehicles has dual trip odometers. I rarely look at them since the third function is "outside temperature" which I find far more interesting. I think the dual odometers can be used cumulatively. For example, if I click on "Trip A" it records those miles, click on "trip B" and those miles are recorded separately. Click back to "Trip A" and add a few more miles, etc. If I just call "Trip A" business miles, and "Trip B", personal miles, I can record each separately (and then use an estimate for tax purposes because I forgot to actually write the numbers down before my kid reset the odometers when he was pressing the buttons on my dashboard).
I thought about it some more, thinking since they've got voice models it could just ask on engine start?Of course, if it had a sense of humor it could ask, "What do you mean a trip to the liquor store is a business trip?"++++++++++++++++++
