I've seen them on jobs, and they look quite massive. Lotsa ply build, nice shading, sort of a look you see in slate, from afar.
I've probably done 15-20 houses with them. They lay like 3 tabs. You don't want to try to cut them on a cold day. We use a shingle shear when we're laying them. I'll post some pictures of this house we're finishing now in a day or so. The copper gutters are almost finished.
The reason I've got these is overshipping. A full semi load the way they load the pallets is 120 sq. My roof was almost 100 sq. I didn't count the bundles ( there were a lot ), but we got done and there was 22 sq left on the ground. I tried to give them back, but they insisted they only delivered 98 sq.
so you say you only paid for 98 sq.?
I paid for 98 sq including ridge caps. I calculated the roof to be 90+ sq. The other roofers that bid against me also calculated 90+ sq. Since they were special order shingles, I over-ordered several squares. I did not count the bundles when they were delivered. When we got to the end of the job, there were 21 sq left over. There should have been 3-4 sq. This was a very cut up roof. I've been estimating roofs for nearly 20 years. The guy that delivered them has been doing so for nearly as long. He says he delivered what I ordered. All sorts of checks and balances were in effect thru the shipping process. I remeasured the roof and still get 90+ sq. I've got 21 sq left over. It's a mystery where 10,000 lbs of shingles came from.
I also ordered 50 rolls of #30 felt (2 sq per roll). We use ice barrier membrane in the valleys ( there was a lot of valley), and I had three rolls of felt left at the end.
Now, all that being explained, why do you ask?Scissors cut paper. Rock breaks scissors. Paper wraps rock.
sometimes , god is good....
good luck moving those shingles short of a dumpster..
