   Around here, you can maybe get granite counters for as little as $50/sqft.   That takes a simple floor plan, inexpensive granite, a square 3/4" edge, and other economy measures.   The kitchen I'm doing right now is more typical at around $80/sqft.   It isn't difficult to spend $150/sqft, and with really fancy material, the sky is the limit.

   I have found that granite prices depend heavily on what material is available (or coming) and the size of the slab.

   As an example, I got two widely different prices for the same kitchen (over a $1500 difference). When I lookend into it more, the main difference was that one company was going to cut all the countertops from a single slab while the other company had to use two smaller slabs that produced more waste.

   As long as you're flexible with color and style, you might be able to strike a good deal with a supplier in the $45 to $55 a sq. ft. range.
