Granite countertop – any ideas on how to save or vetting installers

I have a small project for a cabin. I’ve priced the big box stores but am not sure how to look at smaller shops. It looks like everybody jobs out the order to a wholesaler (I see a huge shop in San Bernardino). Maybe I could ask shops who their supplier is? Would it be feasible to make my own template (out of what?) and order the countertop myself? Its only 25 sq ft so should be transportable.

I’m a painter but I’ve done a few granite countertop installations including four bathrooms, one kitchen, and a fireplace surround and hearth by myself. Slabs of various sizes are available from HD Supply in California. I cut the slabs to size by using a diamond blade on my circular saw and an angle grinder. YouTube is a great source of information regarding cutting and installation.
