My client has 25 1/2″ wide, 3/4″ thick granite slabs she wants installed for counter tops at her bar.  She wants a 12″ overhang.

I was told by the granite installer that it was not a problem to extend 12″ of granite as long as it was supported by 3/4″ ply.

Is this true?  I have never extended granite, having used it mostly over kitchen and bath cabinets only.
