The gentleman who lives adjacent to my land has been living with a 45,000 gallon cistern in his backyard. The triple concrete tanks were left over from an old abandoned inn and didn't require a lot of work to get them in good order. It blows me away that in 30 years he only had to buy water one time - that was when their toilet guts broke while away on vacation, allowing water to run through the bowl uninterrupted. His son had a well installed just a few years ago, but the man told me he still prefers the rainwater !
