Bought a building with two 250 amp electrical service entrances. There is an emergency ground wire (3rd wire) that runs from one to the other across the building (in conduit). It’s in the way of a bunch of stuff. Can I replace this with a ground to a water pipe — or is this necessary ?

There are some specific paragraphs in the code regarding multiple service entrances. Hopefully someone with a recent copy (and better search skills than I have) will quote it.
But I doubt if you can legally replace the ground connection with a water pipe. It should be straight-forward to move it, though.
