Today i installed 1/2″ thk brick pavers on a front porch (concrete slab). Real brick. Coarse surface. Now I need to go back and grout the joints … about 1/4 – 3/8″. My concern is the grout sticking in all the coarse pores of the brick. Thinking about a heavy coat of grout sealer on the bricks first, then grout, possibly clean up with a bristle brush.

fast Eddie,
The way I've seen done around here is dry morter mix is swept between the bricks and then a light misting of water is sprayed over it.. careful not to splash the mix back up onto the bricks..
Seen it done by a brick guy with a bag and nozzle arrangement very much like what a baker uses to frost a cake. The mortar mix goes into the bag and the bag is rolled up squeezing the mix out the nozzle in a controlled manner. He started in the corner and backed out.
Mostly he didn't make mistakes but he had a small spatula like tool for smoothing, he didn't use it much, and a pail of water and what looked like a denture brush and a sponge for removing from where it wasn't supposed to be. On a ten by ten area he might have used these once or twice kind of in a minute flicking motion. He did an area and let it set up. Then he went back and touched up a small spot or two while it was still soft.
When he was done you couldn't tell it from a regular laid brick. A nice job. Never liked the look myself but it did look good as far as they go.
