Got some quotes about a month ago for new gutters on my house. One quote came in a a couple hundred bucks less then the other two. It was from a reputable company.
I got a call this morning from the guy and he said he messed up on the quote and forgot to add something in. It should be about $400 more than he said. In my mind, a quote’s a quote. What would you guys do?

since it appears he notified you of the correction before you contracted for the work, you accept the the new quote.
edit: missed the part "about a month ago" better check the quates, may only be good for 30 days.

You can always accept the new quote, that doesn't mean you have to use him.
Interesting side note, I just read an article about gutters and cost.
I had no idea (since I never have recieved a quote for gutters) that it was so pricey.
Apparently the 1/2 pipe copper gutter look that is becoming so popular can run like 14K and up!
And the lesser expensive look in galvalume/galvanized start in the $6500 range!
Seems this may be the biz to get into.
Sorry, didn't want to derail your thread

Regarding your side note about the cost of gutters...
I pay about $5 - $7 hundered for 2 story ~1800 sq foot houses. I'd guess they are around 100' of seamless AL gutter and probably 6 oversized downspouts. That's with a "multi-house" discount.
No doubt that the copper and other material you are pricing is by far better, but it comes at very roughly 6x to 14x the price of aluminum gutters. I guess that's what ya gotta pay to run with the big dogs...
Even if you had already accepted the offer, consider the quality of work you'd get if you stuck to your guns.

That's how I actually feel and that's why I asked for my deposit back. I was just wondering what everyone thought about it. “The richest genius, like the most fertile soil, when uncultivated, shoots up into the rankest weeds..” – Hume

Was about to comment when I saw that you had given him a deposit... so it's beyond the quote stage. Frankly I'd worry about whether he'd cut corners if you held him to his quote. Besides which, if he's so lousy at math, who knows what his work is like ;)
Right now, I'm just hoping to get my money back without having to pay the bank the fifteen bucks for a stop payment.“The richest genius, like the most fertile soil, when uncultivated, shoots up into the rankest weeds..” – Hume
Curious to know what you're paying. I just had a gutter guy stop here this morning to look at some plans. Normal house, nothing heroic. For heavier aluminum seamless K-gutters and matching spouts he charges $4/LF... gutters and spouts both measured... installed.
Got three quotes, $1,100, $1,300 and $2,000 for around 150' of 0.032 Aluminum gutters, six 10' oversized gutters and flashing.“The richest genius, like the most fertile soil, when uncultivated, shoots up into the rankest weeds..” – Hume
What is the difference between the $1100 guy and the $2000 guy?
What is the difference between the $1100 guy and the $2000 guy?
Nothing, the only thing I can think of is that the $1100 wanted the job and the $2000 didn't.

Same deal around here, except prices a little higher and in Canadian dollars. Two quotes, both ~ $7/lf for heavy 5" aluminum trough and downspouts, installed.
Which begs the question: why do they quote the downspouts at the same price per linear foot as for the seamless trough?
I paid for the seamless trough. But I did my ~120 ft of downspouts and leaders, including installing the downspout fittings, in an afternoon and materials came to less than $1.50/lf. That was probably the biggest DIY dollars per hour savings on my whole project.
Is you gutter man running the gutter or having it dropped?
$4/ft seems a little on the skinny side unless he has his on machine. I try to get between $4.50 and $5/ft for 5" K style because my cost include a delievry charge from my supply house. With that upcharge included, my cost are close to $2.00/ft.
Course if I sold and installed more, my discount at the supply house would go deeper than the current 13%.

He has the big panel truck with the gutter machine inside, and has been in business here quite a while so I guess he makes it work. The other outfit I've talked to does not come here much but is $5/LF when they do. They're a subsidiary of Masco.
I should count my blessings. We have a Masco company install 5" K style gutters and spouts for $2.50/LF. The service is always great.

If I tell you before work starts and you're good with it, then everythings fine. If I tell you before work starts and you dont like it, i'll refund you and part on good terms.
If I tell you after i've started the job i'll either eat it and never make that mistake again or i'll try to work it out with the HO.
I just might choose a company that would come to me with an unsolicited correction. Seems to me he's trying to do good business.
