I guess it depends on what you're trying to do with the water. I've never see a Rianhandler in action, but as I understand them, they scatter the water to break up the force but don't really move it away from the house. Gutters can be a pain to keep clean, but when installed and drained properly, they can significantly reduce splashing and the amount of water that gets dumped near the foundation.

My basement leaked one time ... that's when the gutters were clogged with maple seed helicopters ... and then what did I have? Rainhandler! No thanks. And they're trying to tell us it's a good idea?! I don't think so!
I did see a gutterless system used on TOH, however, for "aesthetic" puposes. The alternative was a surface mount "French drain" along the house foundation with gravel and plastic drains running to daylight. Seems to me like creating a bigger problem than they started out with for little payback. It maybe a good idea for serious ice dam situations ...
I had Gutter Topper installed on all of my gutters and have been very pleased with it. No more leaves clogging them every two months (tall trees on all sides of the house, fir, maple, oak, etc.).
To avoid any water / foundation issues my advice is to keep the gutters and prevent the woodsies from getting into them.
The Gutter Topper has been on my house now for several years, and is working very well for me, so I recommend it to all my friends with clogging issues.
