My gyrocopter was inspected by the FAA yesterday…and received its airworthiness certificate.
I took her up for her maiden flight today….what a rush. It was worth the 502 it took to build it.
Now I can get my mind back into my stair shop and work on something else that climbs and turns…..stairways. <G>

Congratulations Stan. Hats off to you.
Stan, That is great!!!! Just out of curiosity, how did you find the handling of this copter compared to the last one you had? Was it almost exactly the same...or was there a new learning curve?
Fantastic.
Stan...that is so sweet reminded me of the feeling i had first fixed wing solo @ 16yo somethings you never forget... ( like ok i got her up... can i really get her down)
I use to ride dirt bikes with an old guy who was one of (maybe self proclaimed) the fathers of small homebuilt gyros (his garage wall was pasted with news articals from the late 40's early 50's) Alec Barnett
I use to listen to stories for hours about them... before they powered them they pulled em behind boats on the mississippi river then later used McCulluah (sp) air cooled motors... his garage was full of the old parts and each held a story... most when i'd ask about something he'd start with "that d*&% part tried to kill me"
nice work and congrats... your skills amaze me

Way to go Stan.

Woohoo! Back in the air again!
What happend to 'not gonna fly it until the end of March'? But either way, it looks like I was closest in the pool:

Thanks all for the comments.
John: A couple of things happened that got me into the air. I found out that a logbook endorcement that I had a year ago satisfied my insurance company. I also just got the feel of it much quicker and away I went. It handled like a dream.

Nice shots and great threads! Is there a skyhook kit for the gyrocopter? You can deliver your stairs through skylights!...that's not a mistake, it's rustic
"It was worth the 502 it took to build it."
Uhm, 502 what? I've been only loosely following it's progress, since I haven't flown in almost 20 years, and it's probably better for me that I not get too interested.
Be seeing you...
I forgot to put in the word..."hours" after 502.

good work Stan - congratulations and thanks for taking us along -

Thank you all for the kind comments. I was glad to share the build and will share the views as well.
Stan
Congrats! I haven't been in to check on your progress for a while, but it seems like you got another Stan Foster materpiece~
Just been flying this thing all over. I am pleased as could be how it handles. It will fly itself with my hands and feet off the controls. I just go along for the ride.

Stan in the movie the Aviator( I know you watched it) Dicaprio has this sh.t eating grin on his face while he is test flying one of his flying beasts. Did I detect that same expression on your face that only a experimental pilot would display?
Great job. stinky
Mike: That was my long arm taking that shot. I cant take passengers until I have 40 hours logged.

Sam-- You da man!
And I want one!
Now if only I could put one together with stuff from the junkyard....
is it legal to fly over cities. traffic getting bad. could fly to work.. 2+3=7
You can put skis and floats on these. You can fly over populated areas as long as you maintain 1000 feet altitude over anything within a 2000 foot radius.
Stan
Stan, I've been following your threads, too. Awesome job! Very cool.

Allen: Thanks. Flying gyrocopters is about as much a passion on me as building stairways. Both climb and turn.....one makes money....the other takes money. <G>
Stan
Stan, Can you put skis on the Sparrowhawk?? How about floats...or is that completely out of the question?
