This is just a dumb idea I thought of today so I figured I might throw it out here.
On roofs with 24″ OC framing you use H-clips or plywood clips right? Why don’t they have OSB clips? They hardly ever fit worth a sh!t and are a pain to slide the next sheet into without bending them.
When used on plywood they fit easily due to it being slightly undersized than the nominal thickness.
Yeah I know if I framed roofs at 16″ OC or used T&G sheets this wouldn’t be a problem. But I use mostly what the GC specs in the plans.
Whatchu fellers think?

I'm shocked that you would even consider using anything less than 3/4" advantech t+g over 12" OC trusses, screwed and glued down, with Ice and Water applied over the entire roof. Shocked.

Nice red herring! On those clips you used... were those 1/2" inch clips on 7/16" OSB? 1/2" clips were the only ones I could find locally, and yes, they DID feel like there was at least 1/16" slop in them when I walked the deck.
So what's your point? You buy custom jambs to fit the exact measurments of your doorways... you don't buy custom clips for the size of paneling you put up?

No I use 1/2" clips for 1/2" sheets. And they are tight, unlike plywood. Maybe 1 out of 10 will bend on you but thats still a pain when you are on a 12/12 roof 3 stories in the air.
What I was getting at was maybe they should make clips specifically for OSB. A little bigger than 1/2" or 7/16. THey don't have to with plywood because thats undersized a little from it's nominal thickness. So they slide in fairly easy.
After they're all installed, have a guy inside with a big chunk of end grain for a buck, and smack 'em with a hammer from the outside to tighten them up. Goes fast.

THey are too tight most of the time as it is.
Have you used the Simpson clip? Easier to use than anything I'd tried before.

I just got a box of them on this last job, until then I had been using a ghetto knock off. THey do fit alot better.
Here I can get 7/16 1/2 and 5/8 clips off the shelf.

I can get them here too.
It would be nice of they made clips specifically for OSB. Maybe 1/16 oversized or so.
That way they would fit like plywood in the clips. Plywood seems to fit the appropriate sized clips easier than OSB.
We use 1/2" steel clips with 7/16 OSB. I haven't seen any of those aluminum H type clips in a long time.I always pinch one side a little before I put it on the sheet, it opens up the other side a little and makes it easier to slide the next sheet in. Having a slightly larger clip really speeds things up.Does anyone else use them on walls ? I had an inspector leave a comment once on a garage saying solid blocking or clips required. I thought that was weird because aren't the clips just for spacing ? I usually block all my edges, but on this one job I subbed the sheathing out and the guy ran them horizontal and it didn't match my blocking.John
Our local yards carry 7/16" Hurracaine clips.
Chuck Slive, work, build, ...better with wood
We have to use 1/2 sheathing here, so the next sized clip would be 5/8's. Too much slop.
I don't think clips are just for spacing. They stiffen the joints up betwixt your trusses or rafters. I've noticed there is alot less bounce in the sheathing.
