I just rebuilt some porches on a house, refered to me by the guy who sold the siding and windows.
He sold the people, above all else, a half-round window for placement above their front door. However, there is nothing but wall over the door… they also want a sidelight added.
So, long story short, I rebuild wall to accept changes…..
but, the reason for my post is that the window ordered came with no frame or trim. Just a vinyl replacement type window that was only 3 1/8″ thick, which makes no sense to me. The company says they don’t even make a frame or trim for their windows.
So, I get to take it home and see what I can come up with… the pics are below. Most pics came out way too dark because of the sunlight coming in through the garage door. but here are a few of the good ones.

I'm not sure who my lumber yard uses (probably their trim supplier), but I've had them get me curved trim (matched the rest of the trim) to fit any template I've given them. I made the templates from scrap plywood using a flush cut router bit with bearing guide.
I enjoyed the challenge... It gives me a reason to use all of those fancy tools that I had to convinve the wife I couldn't do without.

Don't ya just love how helpful some of those manufacturers are?
Nice job on the window. I've had to make a casing for a 1/2 round window in the past. Fortunately, it was just a flat casing, so it was pretty easy.
I was amazed that this particular manufacturer would manufacture and sell only half of a product.

Doesn't surprise me too much.
Sorry to not be paying attention to your fine window work but I notice that your overhead garage door in the background appears to be real wood. If so, what do you have to do to mount the tracks so they can take the weight? If fake, could you tell me the manufacturer? I suspect, since you are a fine woodworker, that the door is real wood.
Terry, it came with the house when I bought it 7 years ago. House was built in '52 but the door is newer than that.
The door appears to be a skin of masonite or similar hardboard over a wooden framework. It has seen better days as the bottom is rotted enough that the wetherstripping doens't hold tight with nails anymore.... I'm thinking about building my own new door out of wood.
as for the track, it appears to be the same as any other I see. Perhaps a hair thicker than some of the newer stuff that comes with lightweight steel skin doors. It is attached normally.

What do you want for trim?
Whats the house currently have in it?
Making a jamb extension is no biggy, hell you can bend some 1/4" MDF or whatever wood you chose (laminates) easy enough.
Doug
Doug,
I already made the trim and frame. There was no jamb to extend originally.
Check out the pics.
I built the frame and trim by resawing 1X materials and then bending them around the window pane. Lots of glue and clamps... and voila.

I need to work on my reading comprehension a little more!
I looked at the pic and thought you needed trim and jamb extensions, I see the whole picture now!

well, once I'd stopped at a salvage place see.
Guy had a stack of boxed trim he wanted to move.
Some type of composite that was bendable and came pre-formed for half round windows.Ya, I bought it.
but I'm ready now...
