I have a problem concerning halogen lights in my ceiling. Since they produce a lot of heat can they damage the vapor barrier that I placed underneath the drywall? If so what can I do to prevent it? Thank you very much for your suggestions.

The lights have to go into light fixtures. If the fixture is rated for that bulb and the fixture is correctly installed you should have have any problems.
*I think it is a good idea to get the light cans that are approved for insulation contact (whether it's insulated or not) for the reason Bill mentioned. Cheap insurance, and then you can feel more comfortable with hot bulbs.
