Hi All,
I’ve recently been working more as a carpenter. I’m 42 and can’t quite seem to swing my Dalluge 24 oz. as comfortably as I used to. Typical arm elbow prolems are not being releived as quikly as in my youth.
I’ve read with great interest the reviews of the Ti-Bone and it sounds cool but I’ll have to use one before I drop that kinda bread on a hammer. Further more ALL the tool dealers in San Diego area say no one buys or likes them so…
On the last job I was in so much pain I started framing with my Hart 16 oz. trimmer with good results especially over head. Got me to thinkin’ about all the posts about the titanium hammers having the light weight but more mass and same striking power as a heavier steel. Obviously the light weight allows more speed easily but does the titanium have that much more shock obsorbtion? For less than $100 I’m finding wood handles titanium head hammers but I’m reluctant.. are these holding up?
The last thing I have is I swung a Douglas hammer and despite being a staunch traditionalist it is starting to appeal to me. Nice balance and an 18 oz framer is available. Any feedback on these?
Thanks,
Notrix

I just bought the titanium death stick with the axe handle wrapped in graphite for exactly the reason you said.. (I'm 55 and my old Vaughn 24 oz was just too hard on me.) My wife grabbed it in the truck on the way home and wouldn't let go..
she liked it's feel and how light it was (and she hates tools)
If I ever get it back I'll let you know...
I have used the hart hammers for years. Best hammers on the market. I have seen a lot of thosae new age hammers in magazines ect. Havent seen them in the stores around here yet. Personally I like wood handled hammers. The lighter the better.
Notrix - save yourself some bucks and get a Vaughan 19 oz, wood-handled framer. Cost me a buck an ounce @ Cornerhardware.com. Vaughan just came out with a new (blue wood handle) 19oz that's a beauty but costs $34. The Vaughn framers are ererything the titaniums boast, plus just a little extra weight. I used a titanium for a day and couldn't get rid of it fast enough. They're a great, lightweight hammer for spankin' all day but I found it hard to set the nail.
Happy framing
