I am posting this in the general discussion area, as it maybe too controversial for the Tavern.
I have a dolly (told it would be racy).
with inflatable tires (never thought I would be using “inflatable” and “dolly” in the same post)
(not here at least)
the tires have tubes.
one is constantly in a state of flatness.
I used most of a can of fix-a-flat on it, but it still remains barometrically challenged.
so I removed the wheel and tire and tube and used the soapy water method and the Gunner-approved hold it underwater method.
but I don’t see any bubbles
should I be holding it underwater in the bathtub of a sleazy motel room??
I can’t see any leaks @ the valve stem.
WHAT am I doing wrong??
thanx in advance..

replace the valve stem innards...

How about using a "solid" tire I love them long time {even though they can not be blown up}
or the flat proof foam core....
put in a new tube...

Exactly my choice , just what the doctor should have ordered.
that is plan Bbut whyfor is it not leaking now??I have heard of filling tires with polyurethane foam.I wonder if I could put a little water in for curing and fill it with my great stuff gun and have it work??could be a mess and if it didn't work it I'd definitely be replacing the tire..

T,Throw away the Fixaflat and get some Slime. Not only will fix this leak but prevent future ones. Foam is a bad idea, don't ask how I know! My local hardware carries Slime and so does WallyWorld.http://www.slime.com/KK
Slime as just said. Wal-Mart is usually cheaper than Lowes or even Harbor Freight. I go for the gallon and do lawn mopwer tires and everything but trailer tires. It says not for tube but seems to work fine. Make sure you spin the tire after putting it in.For those who have fought for it Freedom has a flavor the protected will never know.
heard tell about the foam.....
10 pounds in a one pound sack....
gets amussing...
and messy....
use the slime....
and change the stem core...
it knows when yur watching and won't leak till ya turn yur back....

I second or 3rd the Slime. I bought Slime tubes for my wheelbarrows. They may have the right size tube to fit your tire.http://www.quittintime.com/ View Image
be careful not to get any slime in the dollys eye and you have to run her around the yard for about five minutes to make sure the slime coats the whole inside of the tire.

I shot some Fix-A-Flat into a wheelbarrow tire about 25 years ago. The, instead of running around the yard with it, I propped it on the shaft of an old washing-machine motor, and left it spinning. The next-door neighbor kept looking over the fence and staring at it all afternoon. But he was a, "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," type of guy.AitchKay

You are just not testing it with enough pressure.Pump it up to about 150 psi and you will find the leak.

why stop at 150???

Just waned to mention that after you stick a tire under water it may take a while for the leak to show up. They can really be a bear to find if they're small ones.
Could someone explain to me what possible sdvantage there is to pneumatic hand truck tires? They always seemed much harder to roll than solids, regardless of the air pressure. Not to mention the flats.Seems to me like an answer to a question that nobody asked.
A solid tire is going to roll easier on a smooth surface. A pneumatic tire is going to roll easier over a rough surface. Tire pressure can be set high for smooth surfaces and roll ALMOST as easily as a solid tire. Conversely, pressure can be set lower for rough surfaces and will roll a LOT easier than a solid tire.
Okay, I guess I could buy that. It hasn't been my experience, but maybe the inflatables I've used were too small in diameter.
Plus I didn't like the "give" and the general squishiness.
fill it twice...
take it to 250...

I have a cylinder of nitrogen...
The nitrogen will help the tire last longer...
Cylinder pressure is good at 2500 psi, give or take a fuzz
:)

Just trying to do my best to help.
Obviously, an air compresor with a cut out at 125 psi is no good for finding leaks.... plus, there is all that oxygen in compressed air to deteriorate the tube....
:)

Leaks too fast, and the dolly floats away.
OH, yeah, its EXPLOSIVE!!!
I just don't have any hydrogen on hand.
I have some acetylene, but it gets unstable at pressures above 15 psi....
I think a replacement tire and wheel is less than 20$ or a new tube.

I had my hand truck tires filled at a place that fills heavy equipment tires... costed about $40 apiece. It is also a ballast, so the tires are heavy now... but no flats.
Off the shelf no flat/foam tires were not available in the size I need for that hand cart... I can only buy new tire/tube/rim combos for mine at $50 each.
Products like Great Stuff will not work well.
The "never flat" tire is like $20 at Lowes and all the other items mentioned at around the same cost. A new hand truck is around $50.....
I'm just sayin' ;)
Is this anything like the carts at home depot with the square wheels?
A solid tire will cure all problems.
I have 3 handtrucks which are always in a "I have a flat tire State of mind".
I have tried to reason with them, tried to be nice by putting them in a shed, Cussed at them, Yelled at them, Carresed them with love, Set fresh cut flowers on them but alas i yam always repaid with a flat tire .
I think they just mock me but i cant figure out why.
If they keep it up i am going to paint them with mismatched paint and lend them out to scoundrels that never return items.
Pour napalm on tire.
Apply flamethrower to dolly tire.
Enjoy show.
Buy new dolly.
Buy some hard rubbers to replace those inflatables

I've got a $39 dolly that I spent $30 on for hard rubber tires and considered it a bargain. One tire on it went flat right after I had fixed and slimed three wheelbarrow tires that same summer and I was getting sick of dealing with them.I think I got the tires from Wallyworld

Actually I have a 20 YO Grossmans wheel barrow that was 30$ that has a 45$ tire and a couple of new handles and a bout 30 hours of farting around with the old tire before the switch...I like the inflatable tires on the hand truck.but if the slime don't work & I got to frick around with it any more I'm gonna prolly go solid..
