If there is no blocking can the hanrail hangers be screwed directly through the drywall into metal studs? what kind of pullout resistance am I looking at? in other words, will it hold?
BTW I don’ like the way this new forum limits the length of the title. you can’t fit any information in the title that way.

There is a fastener from Hilti called the toggler. It is a toggle bolt on a plastic sliding thing that you use to "fasten" the toggle bolt butterfly nut (whatever the thing is you screw into) into the hole you drill. This way, the business end doesn't fall down the wall when you remove the bolt (screw). Get the qtr-20 size and drill right through the stud. Use single hole commercial brackets from Ives, they're decent looking and sized for the larger rail. This should hold well to the stud, no matter what guage. If 16 ga, you might be able to tap the hole and get good holding power.

I spoke with someone else and they suggested drilling pilots and just running the regular screws into the studs. I currently have the stanlet brass residential hangers. this is for a basement in a residence that was finished (obviously) with metal studs.Steve

I agree with Pete (once in a while), you'd be advised to think about his method. If the studs are 26 ga. you won't get much bite. Better at least switch over to sheetmetal screws and don't over torque them. I know the toggler will last till they rip the stud out. Are there kids? or heavy muthers? Best of luck.

Pete, good to see you again. how have you been? I like your idea of the 1x. I had someone else mention that earlier today as well and I think that's the way I'll go. thanks for tha input.

I was real busy for awhile then it slowed down. now it's picking back up again. I stopped hanging out in the tavern because of all the childish behavior that was going on there and started focusing on the business and techniques sections that are going to benefit my business.
