Hanging a Beam from a Ledger Board?
Hello all.
I’m looking to build a small deck (9’7” x 8’). It is positioned on an inside corner of our house. As such, Im looking to have a double ledger board with one footing placed near the un-supported corner, which our code officer has told me would be ok.
The footing would support a beam that would run UNDER the floor joists and HANG from one of the ledger boards against the house. Both the beam and the ledger are constructed from 2×8”s. I found a Simpson Strong-Tie HU Galvanized Face-Mount Joist Hanger for 4×16 Nominal Lumber, which would fit, but seeing as I’m not using it quite as intended (to face mount a joist to a ledger), I’m not sure it would be to code.
Does anyone know if this would be adequate or have another solution? Thanks in advance!
Best,
Nicholas

Look at a THA connector.

They also have some customer service options you can take advantage of. (ask them which product they would recommend)
Please refer to the following code Section:

It will be prudent of you, if you also inquired with the manufacturer, regarding the capability of the hanger in question.
Agreed with the above comments about contacting Simpson. Their tech support folks are pretty willing to help you out.
A ledger along two perpendicular walls? You only need one ledger to support the ends of the joists. --which of course run perpendicular to your beam.
Lower the "other ledger" so your beam can sit on top of it. Just check your building code or the building department to make sure you can use a ledger to support a beam.
