I am in the process of installing bifold louvered doors in two closets. The doors are off the shelf stock, made to fit a 48″ cased opening. My openings are 46.75″. I cannot re-case them due to the way they are constructed. I need to “lose” 1.25″ between the two sets of bifold doors. Do I need to unhinge them, and trim them on a table saw? Do I need to take a little off of the edge of each door so it will look right? I am supposing that should not take off the material on one edge of each door, correct? Thanks, Chris

four doors
eight edges @ 3/16" each
maybe
Thjat's a strong shave for flimsey doors. I have two different types available to me. The better ones have styles about 1-5/8" and they could stand to lose that much. Some others are only about 1-1/4" so I wouldn't trim them so hard. Afraid they'd turn into kindleing.
You might be able to plane your jamb stock down to 1/2" or so. That ought to buy you 1/2" if you do it on both sides, and your trim will cover it. But the rest will have to come off the doors somewhere.
Diplomacy is the art of saying "Nice doggy" until you can find a rock.
I thunk of that too Boss, but it sounds like this jamb is already in place to me.Excellence is its own reward!
