Door Hanging
There's not much difference in the method of hanging any kind of door-
use the proper type and amount of hinges secured to a jamb capable of handling it.
Any specific questions should be able to be answered here if you can't find the article you're looking for.
Here's an old thread started by a real qualified carpenter-should contain some good information if you glean through it.

A Few Things
Well, I don't recall the article, and I look for those things, so I can't help there.
My shop has fit and hung about 3,000 large heavy doors over the last 25 years. However, we do it differently in that we do it on the bench, with door(s) and jambs horizontally. I know it sounds crazy, but it works very well. Our typical exterior entry of late is about 9' tall, 3' or wider, an arched pair, and 2-1/4" thick.
'Tis a long, involved expanation that I'm not able to detail now, but may have time for in the future.
I also wrote an article recently for TIC about some new type hinges that offer adjustability for large doors - a 21st Century Soss hinge. Here 'tis:

The article is sepcifically about hinging cabinet doors, but the hinges will work well on 200 pound doors and larger.
Anything specific about the heavy doors?
heavy doors
calvin first thank you for replying, specifically i saw an article where the carpenter had screwed some blocks around the perimeter to keep it flush to the wall , he had a jig he made to keep the level in place and tight up against the jamb. i liked the steps and scenarios he had outlined. Theres doors i have are 9' full 8/4 jamb and the doors are 2" thick masonite stiles are 6 and 3/4 " . I can hang a door without incident, but there are always pointers especially the ones he pointed out. Thanks again for your help
