I'll second that! Can't think of a finer place to live!

I won't down play that fact that it is Canada Day, but it is also the day that the average Canadian (who pays 50% taxes), is theoretically finished paying, and is now earning money for the rest of the year.

    Cheers,

    Beatrix

Indeed, happy Canada Day (if a smidge belated)! In celebration, I kicked back yesterday evening on the deck among the fireflies and stars and listed to Stan Rogers and hoisted one for you. for all that we tease and pester each other, it is terribly nice to know that betwixt us lies the longest unguarded border in the world. If only we could export some of THAT to the rest of the planet.

wow, and she even likes Stan Rogers. I believe I'm smitten. He was almost a Cape Bretoner, on his mothers side. His song 'Giant' is all about the Island; I miss the big guy. I worked on a project once, restoring a pre-Confederation mansion, now a diplomatic residence. There were painters, a crew of carpenters subbing for the shop I worked in, and a bunch of cabinetmakers doing windows and trim. Nobody was talking to anybody who wasn't part of their crew, until someone mentioned Stan at lunch. Everybody was a fan, started swapping tales, favorite tunes. More of a team after that; funny how music can bridge worlds, eh? OK, I know it's a tangent, but there ya go. If some of the yankees here don't know Stan Rogers, check him out. Canadian folksinger, giant of a guy, killed trying to save other people in a plane crash.

*Wasn't Stan killed in a plane crash in Ohio. . . that #@%#*# place that keeps sending beautiful Ontario all its F**kin smog!!! What is it with that place. . . got a serious hate on for us or what???. . . Hey Pete, you got any pull around there. . . call off the anti Canuck dogs would ya!!!-pm

*Hi Patrick,Until we clean up our own, we shouldn't ask others to do it.Cornwall has one of the highest cancer rates in Ontario as a result of Domtar spewing garbage into the air and the building of one the biggest methane producing hills in the country.Gabe

        1. Guest_ | Jul 07, 1999 02:47am | #13

*Hi Gabe. . that's quite a little cess pool ya got there in Cornwall. . . culturally and environmentally.Homegrown pollution is somehow easier to take than imported pollution. . . at least there's a possibility of doing something about it when it's in your own backyard, so to speak. . . we can yap till hell freezes over, and the Ohio valley industries will continue to send their pollution our way.It is indeed too bad that we are no longer, if ever, worthy of ouri Greenreputation.-pm

Well, hey, how much bad can you talk about a country that had a mohawk insurrection not too long ago? GACCs' just jealous 'cause Texas never succeeded and, uh, some province up there did (right?). Oh, and to Lisa, there was an actual Canadian storming of the U.s. border back in the sixties I think.

    HEy Patrick!

I did read somewhere that a bunch of canadian punk rocker-types (about 50 or so) did try to storm the border and take, umm, Michigan. And no, Bazooka joe supplies my history as well as my napier wit.
